Track and field, a discipline of athletics, is a sport that includes athletic contests based on running, jumping and throwing skills.

The competitions include track events such as running sprints, middle and long distance contests, racewalking and hurdling. These are won by the athlete who completes the event in the least amount of time.

Field competitions usually include long jump, high jump and pole vault in the jumping categories. Where throwing specialties feature common events like shot put, javelin and discus. In each of these areas, points are awarded for maximum height and furthest distance.

Combined events, also known as multi events, where athletes compete in multiple track and field categories range from pentathlon (five events), heptathlon (seven events) and decathlon (10 events).

Most athletics competitions are based on individual accomplishments, team events such as relay races, which occur on the track, are also held and typically feature a team of four.

We look forward to seeing our masters athletes run, jump and propel their way to victory in track and field competitions during the 2024 Pan-American Master Games.

There will also be a parasport/adaptive option for track & field.
