Tennis

WHAT SPORT(S) DID YOU PLAY GROWING UP?

Growing up there were no sports available for women in school. I started playing tennis on my own in high school. I went to the University of Florida and started the women’s tennis team there. I am proud to be a member of the University of Florida Sports Hall of Fame. I went on to be ranked 13th in the world in women’s tennis. The experience led me to go on and become part of the women’s sports movement that led to Title IX.

WHAT SPORT(S) DO YOU CURRENTLY PLAY?

I currently play table tennis, badminton, pickleball, and cornhole.

FAVORITE SPORTS MEMORY OR ACCOMPLISHMENT?

My favorite sports memory was the exciting lifestyle of the world tennis circuit. I had the opportunity to travel around the world 52 weeks a year with friends. I played the major tournaments plus the Caribbean, Australian, African, European, Asian, South American, Canadian, and American Circuits. I fell in love with East Africa and have returned many times.

FUN FACT?

I run a horse farm on top of a mountain in Tennessee. I had two bears in residence for 6 weeks this past year.
