Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A. is unique as it offers access to urban city life as well as close proximity to several parks and hiking trails. Both are prime environments to host orienteering and give you a variety of the sport’s moving speeds.
Orienteering, which exercises your mind as well as your body, requires navigational skills and being quick on your feet. Athletes are given a topographical map, a map showing physical features of the area, a control card and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse terrain. Each point is called a control which features a nylon marker in which participants use to check off their control card before heading to the next point.
Run, walk, climb or fight. Sometimes you’ll have to do all four to reach the control.
