The only cycling competition featured in the 2024 Pan-American Masters Games where it’s you versus you. A cycling time trial tests an individual rider not against other cyclists but the clock.

In France it’s called contre la montre, or “race against time.” In Italian, tappa a cronometro, meaning “stopwatch stage.” No matter where you’re traveling from, the time trial is designed with one goal in mind: beat the clock!

Competitors are sent out at intervals to cover a specified distance on a paved road course. The fastest time to cover the course distance wins the event.

Time trials are often referred to as “the race of truth,” since the race is organized so riders are spaced apart. This creates a course where competitors are less likely to catch one another and unable to slipstream, or ride behind another cyclist to save energy. The race is fought and won on each individual’s strength and endurance.

Our team encourages each masters athlete to bring these qualities to Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A. in Summer 2024.

There will also be a parasport/adaptive option for cycling – time trial.

Venue

Cleveland Metroparks Rocky River Reservation

We can’t think of a better venue to host the Time Trial stage. The Cleveland Metroparks Rocky River Reservation follows the winding course of the scenic Rocky River to Lake Erie, one of the United States Great Lakes. The 2013 National Senior Games Time Trial was held at Rocky River Reservation.

The paved multi-purpose trail and road are surrounded with trees and views of the river and soft shale rock walls in this picturesque gorge. In our opinion, not a bad place to be when you’re in a solo competition with the clock.
